
HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 28

Gratefully recognizing the efforts of Mark Ligon Hankins in
securing for the state, its citizens and guests the Greenbrier
River Trail.
Whereas, West Virginia is widely known for its many scenic
wonders; and
Whereas, We often ignore or forget the selfless efforts of
those among us who not only recognize and appreciate our state's
natural gifts but have the vision, energy and willingness to
protect and enhance them for the enjoyment of others; and
Whereas, Mark Ligon Hankings, with love, dedication and hard
work, persuaded CSX Corporation to donate land along the Greenbrier
River for a nature trail and persuaded the state and federal
governments to fund the necessary topographical and other changes
for the creation of what we now enjoy as the Greenbrier River
Trail; and
Whereas, It is only proper that we take this opportunity to memorialize that selfless effort made for us all by one of our own;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the Parks and Recreation Section of the Department of
Natural Resources is requested to create and locate at the northern
terminus of the Greenbrier River Trail near Cass, West Virginia,
and at the southern terminus of the trail near Caldwell, West
Virginia, a plaque or sign as follows:

Created through the dedication of
MARK LIGON HANKINS
His continuing efforts persuaded the
CSX Corporation to give the land, and
State and Federal agencies to fund the
necessary physical changes.
An everlasting memorial to a caring man.
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the director of the West Virginia
Department of Natural Resources.
